Beddgelert
During our trip to North Wales in February, we stopped in the picturesque village of Beddgelert. School children in Wales learn the Legend of Prince Llewelyn and his dog Gelert. So Dylan told us the entire tale as we drove from our cottage to the village, some 45 minutes away. Beddgelert is thought to owe its name to the legend, and under a tree by the river are stones commemorating the tale. Might this be where Gelert is bured??

Dylan and Brenin read the commemorative words on the stones.

Regardless of whether the tale is true or not, its a gorgeous village, set at the foot of heather covered mountains, with an old church.

We read on a plaque in the village that it was also the setting for some of the 1958 film The Inn of the Sixth Happiness, recording the life of Gladys Aylward, missionary to China. We saw the film several years ago...quite long, but an awesome story, starring Ingrid Bergman as Gladys.
